The Oscorna philosophy

If the soil is rich, the plant stays healthy

At Oscorna, we consider the entire garden. That is why we focus first on the soil – and then on what grows on it. Vital soil allows plants to absorb all the nutrients they need. They develop healthily and strongly and strengthen their defences. This ensures they receive all the nutrients they need, whenever they need them – not just after the next fertiliser application.

Nature needs only nature

The natural cycle is a closed, self-sustaining system. For thousands of years, soil life has been continuously producing new, nutrient-rich humus. Natural fertilisation – and only natural fertilisation – draws on this principle. This allows nature to continue its usual cycle and also benefit from regular soil improvement.

100% natural – right from the start

The Oscorna company

Our family business was founded long before natural fertilisers became fashionable: Oscorna has specialised in organic gardening for 85 years. In Ulm an der Donau, we produce and sell exclusively natural products: for fertile soil and wholesome plant nutrition.

Family business with tradition

1935

(oscorna-historisch.jpg)
Oscorna began with a simple horn mill. It was founded as a sideline by the mill master of an insolvent button factory. Horn shavings and horn meal are considered valuable nitrogen-rich fertilisers. Today, the Oscorna horn mill is the only one of its kind in Germany.

1945

Anthroposophist Robert Schulmeister laid the foundations for the company’s philosophy. It is based on Rudolf Steiner’s Agricultural Course and remains valid to this day. The most important point is that Oscorna only manufactures products that do not harm the soil, plants, humans or animals.

1952

The Oscorna brand is registered. To this day, Oscorna stands for soil improvers and fertilisers made from natural raw materials. They help to revitalise the soil so that healthy plants can grow.

1975

Oscorna is popularising composting, which until now has only been carried out in a few private gardens. The Oscorna compost accelerator also contributes to this, as it reduces the waiting time from a good year to eight to twelve weeks.

1985

Oscorna develops the first soil activator. In doing so, the company paves the way for a new, holistic approach: “Only healthy soil can grow healthy plants!”

1997

The company receives its first certification under the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), which has been renewed regularly ever since. This is followed by environmental awards from the city of Ulm, the state of Baden-Württemberg and the Austrian government.

2000

Oscorna discovers the great benefits of autumn lawn fertilisation and promotes it among gardening professionals and hobby gardeners alike. It is carried out after the last mow and ensures an immediate supply of nutrients in spring. This ensures that the lawn emerges from winter green.

2002

For the first time, Oscorna’s field consultants are holding lawn seminars. Every year, 40,000 visitors learn about the natural way to achieve a thick, green and hard-wearing lawn. Due to its success, Oscorna is expanding its lecture programme in subsequent years to include rose seminars and other topics.

2007

Two photovoltaic systems are being commissioned at the company’s Ulm site. The annual output of these systems corresponds to approximately 80 per cent of the company’s annual electricity requirements for production, warehousing and administration.

2017

The company grows to 80 employees in production, administration and consulting. More and more people want to garden naturally. In addition to hobby gardeners, gardening and lawn care professionals trust Oscorna’s natural, holistic approach.

2020

In addition to increasing the workforce, structural expansions are being carried out at the company and production site. A silo storage facility and two new warehouses are also being built in order to be able to continuously meet the rising demand.

Respect for nature is deeply rooted in our company’s history. One of our most important principles is that Oscorna only manufactures products that do not harm the soil, plants, people or animals.

Nature is in it

Oscorna products consist exclusively of organic raw materials and natural minerals from the rock world – just as nature intended. They vitalise the soil and nourish billions of soil animals and microorganisms that convert the fertiliser. In the top layer of soil, the nutrients processed in this natural way are then gradually made available to the plants.
