Hot off the press – lawn regeneration for moss and weeds!

Once the night frosts are over, you can restore your lawn to its former glory in six simple steps.

Lawn regeneration in the event of moss and weeds
This should ideally be carried out in late spring or early autumn:

1. Mow the lawn short (approx. 3 cm)
2. Scarify on dry ground (lengthwise, crosswise and diagonally)
3. Apply reseeding to close gaps in the vegetation
4. Apply Oscorna Soil Activator (200 g per m²)
5. Apply Oscorna Rasaflor Lawn Fertiliser (100 g per m²)
6. Water the lawn daily until complete germination (duration 4 weeks)

All steps can be carried out one after the other without waiting.

The lawn

Step by step to a green carpet

Whether it’s a well-tended gem or a hard-wearing playground, a thick, green lawn is the pride and joy of many garden owners. And rightly so – because unfortunately, mowing the lawn alone is not enough.

Lawns instead of wild growth

A fundamental decision

If you want a permanently dense, green and hard-wearing lawn, the basic rule is: it won’t work without “feed”! Because lawns are monocultures. Grass plants grow close together, one next to the other. The weather in summer also puts the lawn under constant stress. Heat, drought and heavy rain take their toll. So it’s no wonder that a lawn that is left to its own devices soon withers away. Moss and weeds can increasingly take over.

In the long term, the plant that benefits most from the conditions will always grow.

That is why it is important to ensure that your lawn has healthy soil and a sufficient supply of nutrients. This will prevent deficiency symptoms and save you from having to deal with treating the symptoms year after year.

A well-maintained lawn right from the start

Only in permeable, humus-rich soil can grass roots grow deep without any problems – instead of becoming matted into a dense root system. In addition, the necessary water is stored, while excess water can drain away.

Step 1: Loosen the soil

The first step is therefore to loosen the soil naturally and then provide everything that promotes the health and stability of the plant.

Depending on the condition of your lawn, it is advisable to regularly sprinkle > Oscorna Soil Activator to keep the soil healthy and alive.

Step 2: A well-stocked pantry

If the soil is healthy, a permanently dense, green lawn needs regular, complete nutrition. Oscorna Rasaflor lawn fertiliser has also proven itself here for decades as an all-season fertiliser – in hobby gardens as well as among professional greenkeepers.

When fertilising your lawn, you can really benefit from the advantages of > organic fertilisation

The two products, Oscorna Soil Activator and Oscorna Rasaflor Lawn Fertiliser, can be applied one after the other without waiting.

Ist Ihr Rasen dicht und grün, genügt eine 3-malige Düngung im Frühjahr, Sommer und Herbst mit je 50 g/m² Oscorna-Rasaflor Rasendünger.

Saving your lawn – here’s how

Proven in private gardens, parks and sports fields

Whether it’s moss, dead patches, root matting or other undesirable symptoms: when dissatisfied lawn owners come to us with their problems, it’s usually down to the same causes: poor soil quality. Soil compaction, waterlogging, soil acidification or general soil fatigue deprive the lawn of its basis for growth. Moss and clover are also signs of nutrient deficiency. Vigorous lawn growth is not possible under these conditions.

First aid for your lawn

For many years, our solution to these problems has been Oscorna Soil Activator. It helps to restore the biological balance. It is not only private lawn owners who use it successfully. Numerous professionals, such as greenkeepers and those responsible for sports fields and parks, confirm its high effectiveness.

Tips for successful lawn care

mowing

  • Frequent mowing makes the lawn denser
  • Cutting height: spring 4 cm, summer 5–6 cm, autumn 4 cm
  • Cut no more than one third of the blade of grass per cut
  • Important: the lawnmower must have sharp blades

watering

  • Not daily, but once a week thoroughly. Ideally early in the day. Not in the hot midday sun.
  • When laying new turf, keep the area constantly moist for the first four weeks so that the grass can grow evenly.

Lawn regeneration for moss and weeds

Ideally, this should be done in late spring or early autumn:

  1. Mow the lawn short (approx. 3 cm)
  2. Scarify on dry ground (lengthwise, crosswise and diagonally)
  3. Spread reseeding to close gaps in the plants

Important

During the germination phase, mow without a grass catcher and with the maximum cutting height setting to prevent seed pick-up.

If you then maintain the lawn properly (see Mowing and Watering) and fertilise at least three times a year, you will soon be able to enjoy a lush green lawn.

For new lawns or problematic areas, it is advisable to increase the application rate of Oscorna Rasaflor lawn fertiliser to 100 g/m² for the first fertilisation.
Under trees and hedges, generally spread 100 g/m² of Oscorna Rasaflor lawn fertiliser to provide sufficient plant nutrition.

Green from winter

Recipe for success: autumn fertilisation

The most important fertilisation with the purely organic Oscorna Rasaflor lawn fertiliser takes place in late autumn. It serves as a nutrient store for the first warm days. As soon as temperatures rise and the lawn needs nutrients to grow, the soil organisms start working again. They convert the organic substances into nutrient-rich humus, loosen the soil and give the lawn exactly the boost it needs. This ensures that it emerges from winter healthy and green. Moss and weeds are suppressed early on and have little chance of survival.
